Situated in the fertile valley of Roseau on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, St. Lucia Distillers emerged in 1972 through the merger of the two remaining sugar-estate distilleries on the island. As the sugar-industry faded, the company shifted to importing molasses, and it now operates a sophisticated facility that includes both pot stills and a Coffey column still to handle multiple rum styles. This technical capacity enables the distillery to craft rums ranging from the heavier pot-still styles through to lighter column-distilled blends, giving Saint Lucia a modern yet grounded rum identity.
The distillery is best known for its flagship brands Chairman’s Reserve (launched in 1999), Bounty Rum and Admiral Rodney, which reflect its focus on premium-quality production and storytelling rooted in local heritage. Through its use of both molasses and locally grown cane juice, combined with aging in varied cask types and thoughtful blending, St. Lucia Distillers has carved out a respected position in the Caribbean rum landscape, offering visitors and enthusiasts a well-crafted, character-rich experience of Saint Lucia’s rum tradition.
Among their many awards, the distillery has previously been honoured with the “Distillery of the Year” award in the rum category at the World Spirits Awards, with standout brands like Chairman’s Reserve and Admiral Rodney taking Gold Medals.
The distillery’s “Rum Tour” is a guided journey that takes about an hour. During the experience guests view a short film about rum on the island, explore the production areas—from molasses storage through fermentation to distillation in copper stills—and finish in a tasting area where the distillery’s portfolio is available at “factory prices”.
