Day 1 – Supplier Showcase

TechCon 2026 focused on a broad range of issues affecting the future competitiveness of the industry, including artificial intelligence and digital transformation, automation, production efficiency, packaging innovation, supply chain resilience, water management, energy optimisation, product quality, safety and evolving regulatory requirements.

Particular attention was given to the transformative potential of artificial intelligence within distillery operations. Discussions highlighted how AI-enabled systems can enhance production monitoring, support predictive maintenance, improve quality assurance, optimise resource use and strengthen data-driven decision-making across the value chain.

“The Caribbean rum industry has never stood still,” said Vaughn Renwick, Chief Executive Officer of WIRSPA. “Our producers compete successfully in some of the world’s most demanding export markets because they continue to invest in innovation while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions and authenticity that make Caribbean rum unique. WIRSPA TechCon demonstrates that commitment to continuous improvement and collaboration.”

Anthony Bento, head of Antigua Distillery and Deputy Chairman of WIRSPA who attended the conference, noted that the industry continues to evolve while remaining grounded in its heritage. “The strength of Caribbean rum lies in its ability to combine centuries of tradition with modern innovation. Established producers continue to share expertise and best practice, while new investments are bringing fresh energy and opportunities to the sector.”

Among the outcomes of the conference were stronger collaboration between producers and suppliers, greater awareness of emerging technologies, enhanced understanding of future regulatory and market requirements, and the identification of shared priorities for continued industry development.

WIRSPA noted that the conference highlighted not only the technical sophistication of the modern Caribbean rum industry, but also its importance as a strategic export sector capable of generating economic value, supporting tourism, attracting investment and promoting the Caribbean brand internationally.

As global demand continues to grow for premium, authentic and sustainably produced spirits, the Caribbean rum industry remains well positioned to build on its reputation for quality, innovation and excellence.
